Challenge

Khairul was building an internal document search tool at work and had no prior experience with retrieval architectures. He had completed two general ML courses and found them too abstract to connect to what he was trying to build.

Approach

He enrolled directly in the LM engineering programme after a short email exchange with the school. The programme project became a simplified version of the document tool, which meant he was applying concepts to a real problem rather than a synthetic exercise.

Outcome

After fourteen weeks he had a working retrieval pipeline with a documented evaluation harness. He estimates the programme saved him roughly two months of self-directed trial and error. The design defence identified three latency issues he hadn't noticed.

She completed the module and describes the preparation period as genuinely necessary. Her final model worked on the dataset she sourced from a local agricultural research context. The one-to-one review clarified why transfer learning underperformed on her specific data distribution.
